”Notre-Dame de Paris”, 1992, oil on canvas, 75×95 cm
The painting ”Notre-Dame de Paris” by Rein Tammik (1992), captures the grandeur and intricate beauty of the iconic cathedral. Executed in oil on canvas (75 x 95 cm), the artwork focuses on the interplay between the architectural details of Notre-Dame and the natural surroundings, particularly the bare trees that frame the scene. Description
Rein Tammik (b.1947)
Rein Tammik was born in 1947 in Valga, Estonia. He is now living in Normandy, France since 1991, where he settled in Eu. He studied until 1974 in the Academy of Arts in Tartu, and after that in after that in Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. In 1975 Rein Tammik received the prize of Moscow Young Artist “for the genre” for his painting “Vosxodiaschee”, which was subsequently acquired by Tretiakov Gallery. He became a member and exhibitor of the Moscow Association of Fine Arts, USSR Society of Artists, and a member of the Society of Filmmakers of USSR. He participated in the Spring exhibitions in the halls of the Academy of Arts before his move to France.
He worked in Eu from 1991 to 1993, exclusively with the French Gallery les Trois Soeurs. Their collaboration started from an exhibition in Chapelle d’Eu in 1991 with 20 other Estonian Artists, includin Kormashov, Kurvitz, Mudist, Tiina Tammetalu. Rein Tammik was selected by Ants Juske, famous art critic and writer, as best artist painter in Estonia in 1990. He is a symbol of the vitality of Estonian art, and particularly of hyperrealist Soviet art. Since moving to France, his artistic language became more emotional, determined by the observation of light effects, capturing the unique phenomenon seen in a given place and time. His works since 1991 are much sought after by French and German, English museums because they were influenced by modern French painters such as Monet, Renoir and he subsequently freed himself from the Soviet imprint. Rein Tammik is one of the few Estonian painters to have successfully undergone international auctions for record prices in France, Germany and England.
