Leo Rotko (b.1951)

Leo Rotko is described as an artist who balances still lifes and portraiture in his work. Despite his humility towards the objects he depicts, he prefers the turmoil and vividness of his inner vision over the conventional representation of what he sees. The passionate brushstrokes emphasize and give weight to the volumes in his paintings, imbuing even the inanimate objects with a sense of animation.

Rotko seeks to achieve fulfillment and harmony through the colors he uses in his landscapes and still lifes. His brushwork plays a significant role in shaping the forms, employing intense contrasts between light and shadow, dark tones like black and blue, and vibrant hues such as red to make the volumes stand out.
