Marcel PELTIER (1924-1998)

Born July 4, 1924 in Louviers, Marcel Peltier has retained from his childhood spent in the countryside the authenticity of beings who live close to nature, the taste for work well done as well as the love of beautiful things transmitted by his parents. Very early on he showed an attraction to painting. After secondary school in Évreux, he worked for the Compagnie Transatlantique for eight years as a navigator and discovered new horizons, particularly America. His love of Art having not left him, he preferred to go into exile in Paris to take courses at the School of Decorative Arts rather than work on the family farm.

Back in Normandy, he married. After a stay in the countryside, he came to live in Rouen with his family and joined the Société Générale de Surveillance. In 1959, a serious illness forced him to stay two years in Berck hospital. Returning to Rouen, he enrolled at the School of Fine Arts. He returned to Berck in 1964 following a road accident. During his stays in Berck, he devoted himself to his lifelong passion: painting and then met the nephew of the famous Bonnard, also hospitalized in a neighboring room.

The two men become friends. Encouraged by the nursing staff, they settle in the same room which they transform into a real workshop. Bonnard’s advice enabled him to progress rapidly. This is where his vocation as a painter was born. He then worked with Lucien Fontanarosa, a Parisian painter, then with Fernand Élie, a Norman artist, who provided him with valuable advice. Since then the exhibitions follow one another, his work becomes international and is always better received by critics and art lovers
