Mark Kostabi (1960) ”The Courtship of America”, 1990, 123x123cm
Mark Kostabi (b. 1960) – The Courtship of America, 1990
Oil on canvas, 123 x 123 cm
A bold and striking work, The Courtship of America encapsulates Mark Kostabi’s signature style—anonymous figures, surreal lighting, and a sharp commentary on consumer culture. The dramatic contrast of red, black, and white enhances the symbolic power of the Coca-Cola vending machine, an icon of American capitalism. The faceless figures, engaged in an almost ritualistic interaction, evoke themes of connection, conformity, and the influence of branding on human relationships. Created at the height of Kostabi’s career in the 1990s, this rare piece is a thought-provoking statement on modern society—an essential acquisition for contemporary art collectors.
